Sincerely, I flatter you….

We all know the old tried and true saying…”imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”.  Today’s estate find confirms our second old adage, “the proof is in the pudding”!  As I hunt for inspiration under all kind of varying rocks, I find that I am quite obsessed with a not so new design of ring, necklace, earring…today, in particular, we discuss the bezel set ring.

Simple, clean, modern lines and an incredible playing field for mixing in quirky, classic, edgy bands of all kinds.  The low bezel set engagement ring must appeal to my love affair with mid century modern.  Boasting incredibly innovative and edgy design with such simple packaging is a breath of fresh air to the modern take on jewelry……bedazzled, covered (I would use the word “dripping” but it sounds too pretty and decadent for the catastrophe that is modern jewelry) in tiny heavily included mucky diamonds around every nook and cranny of an icky imagination lacking design.  Don’t get me wrong, I love bling….and halo’s and pave shanks have their place.  It seems though, lately, it’s more the “what I lack in style, I make up in…….bling” approach is being eaten up with a side of ranch dressing.  Even Tiffany, a pioneer in simple clean line jewelry with style and class, has added double and triple halos around a tiny chicklet center stone so beer budgets can indulge in a glass of stella artois.

THERE IS REDEMPTION!!!!!!!  THERE IS HOPE!!!  This is the exact reason I found my passion for jewelry lying among the rubble of dirty old estate pieces, just waiting for a shine!!!!

Lately, as I dig, I often find bezels to be a nice little surprise here and there and while they are called “modern” they are far from it.

They are a vintage beauty with modern appeal….no reinventing the wheel here.  However, with something so great, who says it needs reinventing?  Kudos bezel…you did it….you were gorgeous and unique then and still turning heads now!

Enjoy this gorgeous 1910’s old mine cut bezel set stone with a killer inner scalloped head and filigree on the side.

Show me your pearly whites!

I must admit, I am not really a pearl girl!  But everything has its perfect place and I am happy to share with you a couple of killer finds!

Lets start with the Ruser freshwater masterpiece.  Ruser was best known for their creation of figural pieces centered on the ornate shape of natural freshwater pearls usually fashioned along side 18kt yellow gold and diamonds.  This piece spoke to my heart with its large and in charge elegance.  The surprise of the flattened awkward shape of the pearls almost forces you to question your past judgements on these beautiful oyster birthed gems!  The textured gold makes for an elegant understated frame.

Crosses have long since been a staple to our jewelry collection especially in the Victorian era!  This gorgeous yellow gold and blue enamel cross set with a couple of old cut accent stones has earned the right to revive itself and even bring out the edge in a simple strand of pearls.  Layering changes everything.  Georgeous!

Gone huntin’

Hello out there!!!!!!  As I wrap up my days, which seem to be much more stressful as of late, I drive myself home and fall into my “cozy chair”….. I am left with the thought “man, I have GOT to write a blog post”.  The problem, a very good problem might I add, is that I have been sooo busy I haven’t been able to obsess…much less share my obsessions!  While time is still a tickin and I seem to be chasin…….this bauble is too fantastic to let go by the wayside!  I want to sing loud and proud and share with you just another fine example of why I do what I do…its not about cold stuffy commercials promising you “a friend in the diamond business”, “an accent on value”, “jeweler to the titans” or anyone else famous for that matter.  THIS IS ALL ABOUT a love for people, and fine pieces coming together and giving me and my brother something to passionately share with friends, new clients that become friends and even total strangers!  Feast your eyes on this vintage yellow gold and platinum cuff……not so commonly seen today but a popular way of utilizing the diamond pin’s made popular in the early 1900’s but fizzling out in the 60’s.  This gorgeous statement piece elegantly draped in rose cuts, old mine cuts, and european cuts totalling in just under 1.50cts.  This piece will be in the dr’s office for a little CPR (including a bath, a polish, and some diamond replacement)….we need to breath life into this wise old piece so that she might tell her story!  I live for pieces like this!  Stay tuned for more finds……………….

Gorgeous vintage two tone bangle set with approx 1.25-1.50cts of old mine cut, rose cut and european cut diamonds. Needs a suitable home! client price-3400.00

wrap, stack me…you can’t over do me!

Its been said that women are “crazy” or have multiple personalities……well men aren’t quite as unaware as we thought.  For their assessment is partially true, though poorly labeled.  Women are intricately and deeply wired with incredible evolving layers, and for this we require fashion that works with our sweet n sassy, edgy n classy sides!

I don’t know about you, but this girl lives and breathes by versatility!  Versatility might even be my favorite adjective right now, temporarily taking the place of asymmetry!  I am just different enough to be deemed quirky and by some even eccentric!  Knowing this, how could I ever buy anything that had one look or one vibe….NO NO NO!!!!!  Give me versatility in a haircut, clothing, jewelry, allllll of it!  Bringing me to two of my most favorite fashion jewelry pieces……..diamonds by the yard chains and stackable bands!  Imagine the possibilities, today you are more sweet than sassy……simply wrap your diamonds by the yard once for choker and longer layer.  Tomorrow, red lips painted on and hair in the air…..deserving of layering your diamonds by the yard with another chunky chain necklace and topped off with your favorite vintage pendant.  Same with the stackable rings: white, gold, pink, organic branch inspired, to comfortable and classy diamonds…….wear it all or just one, the moral of the story is YOU HAVE CHOICES!

I don’t claim to be on the cutting edge of fashion, but as a veteran “comfortable in my own skin” girl, spending oodles on a piece that lasts a season puts you in the “sheep forever chasing greener pastures” category!  Fashion is ever changing and you can spend every dime you got and never be on top!  So why not find your own personal “thang” and rock your socks off?  As you dabble in the world of all things fine, I consider diamonds by the yard and stackables to be your one stop shop!!!  Take the plunge and 20 years from now, you will still be thanking me!

A new attitude…..breathing life into the dead!

marquise, yellow gold, cluster rings,……….all the thing!  Ballerina rings from the 80’s are truly one of the few pieces worthy of a hand slapping consequence, the older, the golder, the chunkier the better and what is “almost weird” is “absolutely perfect”!  So many of us frown at the mention of marquise cuts and even OVALS!!! “Shame on you” would be fitting, but I can’t blame you, for seeing is believing!!!  So today…I hope to overturn  our current “it’s gold, take it and sell it to a skeezy gold buyer” and “only a round diamond will do” attitude!!!

Marquise and ovals- Yucky huh……or NOT AT ALL!!!  The traditional setting for marquise and the horrible 80’s and 90’s custerful designs laid ugly names to undeserving stones.  While the look of the slender bodies coming to either a soft or harsh point at either end isn’t a look for everyone, that doesn’t mean it can’t be used in a way that no other stone quite could!  It’s all in imagination and execution.  Such as, turning a stone east to west to make it a “piece” instead of a center stone focused ring.  They can be elegant and clean, or modern and edgy.  After 5 years of being submerged in diamonds and gold, I had yet to find a ring that belonged on my finger and questioned even wanting a center stone at all.  Then it happened and an oval got flipped on its side and coupled with the clean vintage pave setting hugged by 2 completely different stackable bands; adding the intricate details that made it spectacular.  Since then I have used this approach with a few brides-to-be that had yet to be “inspired”.  We take something unexpected and make it rare and cool all the while making it work, not just now, for years to come!!!

THE BAD RAP-

OH SO RIGHT!

As you see……beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the mind of the creative!!!!  So now that you know you are free to venture outside of the box……DO IT!

And while you are at it….go on an pull out your mom’s old yellow gold cluster rings, even the dreaded ballerina ring from the 80’s and early 90’s can play the part and win fashion’s cold hard heart!!!  Now, don’t get me wrong…..it can all be done real wrong.  Lately, I find myself being drawn to my estate dealer’s chunky, golden, clustered masterpieces!  They are incredible statement pieces and a fabulous intro into the world of fine jewelry.  They are sitting in jewelry boxes waiting to be loved and rediscovered.  Here are some of my favorites!  Find them, love them!!!!
